Stock-market turmoil's effect on the Bay Area, Silicon Valley
A Chinese stock market meltdown rippled across U.S. markets Monday, stirring worries of worse to come from the world's second biggest economy. A continuing decline in China's economic growth is likely to affect consumer spending on information technology and consumer goods that Silicon Valley makes.
Stocks erased some of their early losses Monday, but all 30 members of the Dow Jones industrial average, including the five based in the Bay Area, plunged into negative territory and closed out a grim day of trading on Wall Street.
